Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities
The mission of the Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities is to work proactively to remove physical and attitudinal barriers at all levels of city government and throughout Kansas City, Missouri by ensuring that the city is inclusive of, and is fully usable by, people with disabilities.
The goals and strategies of the Committee are:
- Identify and secure funding and other resources for our mission.
- Work and integrate our community values with city departments to keep disability issues top-of-mind status in everything they do; integrate our values into the behavior of KCMO departments and establish measures of accountability.
- Inclusion of built environment players, architects, developers and contractors in the planning, zoning, and development process.
- Connection between City, various agencies, private sector, volunteer and disability organizations to strengthen collaboration, education, and awareness.
The Mayor appoints 15 members to this committee.
