KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas today introduced a pair of ordinances that would impose a residency requirement and a salary cap on the top salaried positions in any organization receiving more than 20 percent of its funding from Kansas City taxpayers. The director’s salary and other top salaried positions of any of these organizations would not be permitted to exceed that of the Kansas City Manager’s. Both ordinances would apply prospectively only.
“These good-governance measures will help ensure leaders of all organizations funded substantially by the Kansas City taxpayer live in the same community they’re working to help build,” said Mayor Lucas. “By capping executive compensation, we’re helping to ensure Kansas City taxpayers’ dollars are being spent responsibly, and that any organization which receives a substantial portion of its revenue from the City abides by the same cost expectations we would have for any City agency. Our current budget situation highlights the need for us to spend taxpayer dollars as efficiently as possible.”
