KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas —in consultation with Kansas City Health Department Director Rex Archer, M.D.—today extended and amended Kansas City’s COVID-19 Emergency Order, effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, April 30, which will continue to require masks to be worn indoors at all places of public accommodation. This Order will remain in effect until May 28, 2021, unless otherwise amended or rescinded prior to that date.

“I am glad to see over one third of Kansas City’s adult population fully vaccinated, and COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continuing to drop throughout the region,” said Mayor Lucas. “Since many in our community are still in the process of receiving their vaccines, they continue to be at risk of infection. Our updated COVID-19 guidelines reflect the progress we’re making in curbing this pandemic, but we will continue to roll back restrictions responsibly as we wait for the rest of our community to cross the finish-line.”

Guidelines that remain unchanged:

  • Masks continue to be required indoors in places of public accommodations for ages 5+. Exception granted if all individuals in the room can prove they are fully vaccinated

Updated guidelines are as follows:

  • All capacity and spatial distancing requirements on business operations and gatherings under previous COVID-19 orders are rescinded.
  • No masks are required outdoors.

The State of Emergency will be extended to August 31, which will allow for extension of positive recovery efforts such as outdoor dining and parklets.
