The City of KCMO recently was recognized by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) with a Certificate of Excellence from the ICMA Center for Performance Analytics. This marks KC’s 5th consecutive Certificate of Excellence from ICMA for its performance management efforts, which is the highest of three levels of recognition (Achievement, Distinction, and Excellence). Criteria for the Certificate of Excellence include reporting of performance data and outcomes to the public, employee training, use of performance data in strategic planning, surveying of the public and employees, and sharing best practices with other jurisdictions. ICMA honored 52 jurisdictions overall, including 34 with the Certificate of Excellence.
KCMO’s efforts in this area are overseen by the City’s Manager’s Office of Performance Management, and include KCStat, which publicly monitors the City’s progress toward its Citywide Business Plan goals and objectives; the city’s citizen survey, business survey, and employee survey, which provide data that is incorporated across all operational areas; and the city’s work with the What Works Cities program and other national benchmarking and best practice organizations.
