Kansas City is committed to planting more trees to increase the City's tree canopy through measures such as:
- Kansas City's Tree Preservation and Protection Ordinance
- The Kansas City Climate Protection and Resiliency Plan
The Kansas City Council approved the FY 2023-2024 budget, which included sustainability efforts:
- $1 million to add 10,000 trees to the City's tree canopy over three years.
Canopy Cover KC is made possible by the support of Bridging the Gap and Evergy in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. This citywide effort also includes support from Parks and Recreation and Neighborhood Services Departments.
This initiative is the first time tree planting will occur on private property with city-funded support.
