Here’s what is happening in the Northland
I continue to work with KCPD to ensure police officers have the proper tools to serve and protect the citizens of District 1. We are also working with Neighborhood Associations to promote safe driving. I have also begun the work to build a new Fire Station which will both serve the needs of District 1 as well as throughout the city by reducing response times. Walking to school should not be a luxury. I have worked with neighborhood leaders, school districts and public works to find ways to build sidewalks in District 1 neighborhoods. So far we are in the process of adding sidewalks to schools in the North Kansas City School District. We are also working on safer crosswalks for students. Lighted stop signs have also been added to certain intersections for added safety. This year, I had the pleasure of taking part in National Walk To School Day. I joined students in the Liberty School District. Hundreds of students walked or rode their bikes. I strive to have this happen at many more schools in the Liberty and North Kansas City School Districts in 2016.
I continue to champion local business entrepreneurs. Kansas City thrives on great ideas and innovative companies willing to take a chance. I will continue to partner with local business to streamline the KCMO permitting process, timeline and tax structure. For example, January 15-24 is KC Restaurant Week #KCRW2016. Join me as I try a different restaurant each day!
