The Environmental Public Health Program issues noise permits and inspects hotels and motels, child care facilities and swimming pools. Also within the Environmental Public Health Protection Program, Food Protection is responsible for the inspection of all food service establishments, retail grocery stores, taverns, schools, mobile units and temporary events. The Air Quality Program continuously monitors for the presence of various air pollutants as part of the National Ambient Air Monitoring Network; ensures regulatory compliance by issuing permits to and monitoring industrial air pollution sources; and inspects and monitors asbestos removal projects. The Rat Control Program has hired an exterminator who will perform free rat control services to people living in single-family homes or duplexes. It also provides rat control in sewers, vacant lots, vacant homes and City construction sites.

The City does not perform rat control on commercial properties or apartment buildings, but can advise the owners of these properties on necessary steps to be taken. The program’s office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
