Energy Empowerment Ordinance
|IF YOU OWN OR MANAGE A BUILDING IN KANSAS CITY THAT EXCEEDS 50,000 SQUARE FEET, PLEASE “CLAIM YOUR BUILDING” TO RECEIVE CORRESPONDENCE ABOUT THE ENERGY EMPOWERMENT ORDINANCE.|
On June 4, 2015, Mayor Sly James and the City Council of Kansas City adopted an Energy Empowerment Ordinance to improve the city’s management of resources by requiring owners of large buildings to benchmark and report their energy and water use. The goal is to help businesses and residents to save money on their utility bills and create local jobs in energy efficiency. This information will also help our local energy utilities and the City government target future financial and technical assistance.
If you are a building owner or property manager, please Claim Your Building using the interactive map. Double-click on the red circle and then double-click again on the location of your building. Once you find your building, click on the blue dot. Data for your building, including your Building ID and square footage, will appear below the map. After finding your Building ID, then complete the form below to let us know that you own or manage the building. (Note, it helps to use your scroll bar rather than mouse for the map feature).
Download the Requests for Changes and Exemptions if a change is required to the information on record in the Covered Building list, to request an exemption, to request removal form the Covered Building list or to alter the assignment of an Authorized Agent.
