In its heyday, the Hillside Motel, 6305 Blue Parkway, welcomed weary travelers with a sign offering comfortable waterbeds and color TVs, but in recent years, the long abandoned motel went from heyday to decay- plagued by vagrants, vandals and illegal dumping. Those days of decay came to an end when crews demolished the once quaint-looking structure. Surrounding residents and 5th District Councilwoman Alissia Canady watched it come down, signaling new life for the old motel site.
“Diligence and perseverance is what comes to mind,” Canady said when asked by reporters about the significance of the demolition. “It was important because my constituents were obviously very passionate about getting it addressed.”
The councilwoman said she is looking forward to the next chapter in the property’s history. Thousands of cars pass by the site every day, making it a prime location for new businesses.
“You remove blight, you open up opportunities and that’s what you’re looking for, new opportunity, new economic development along this corridor,” Canady said.
