Neighborhood and Housing Services Department (NHSD) Administrative Assistant Mae Caruthers received the City of Kansas City, Missouri’s Distinguished Clerical Service Award during Public Employees Recognition Day inside Municipal Auditorium’s Little Theater.
The award is presented to a city employee whose outstanding performance has served as an inspiration to others and a credit to city service. Clerical occupations are those involving structured work in support of office, business or fiscal operations and are performed in accordance with established policies and working knowledge of office procedures.
“Mae is an exceptional employee and provides excellent service to our staff and neighborhood clients,” said Sarah Cecil, NHSD senior administrative assistant.
Caruthers is the public’s first contact with the NHSD and because of it, has a broad-based knowledge of the entire department. Cecil said Mae’s ‘can do’ attitude has trickled down throughout the NHSD.
“Her willingness to go the extra mile to help citizens has inspired her coworkers to be better servants of the public,” Cecil said.
When she is not passionately and politely helping anyone coming through the fourth floor doors of the NHSD, Mae is a tireless volunteer for the United Way. She was this year’s United Way coordinator.
Caruthers joined other deserving city, federal government and Jackson County employees honored during the 24th annual ceremony.
