Many divisions in the city’s Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department (NHSD) now have a new home of their own. Effective Friday, January 18, the city’s housing staff, along with the Dangerous Buildings, Neighborhood Preservation and Land Bank divisions have relocated to 4400 Blue Parkway. There are several reasons for the move, but primarily it was due to the deteriorating conditions in the 4900 Swope Parkway building, where several NHSD employees worked.
“That structure has lost its utility and had really become an unhealthy environment for staff and visitors,” said John A. Wood, NHSD director and asssistant city manager. “We’ve had water breaks resulting in flooding of the first floor on two occasions in the past four years and several outside vandalism issues.”
Wood said the move to the former H & R Block call center headquarters will not only unify several NHSD divisions, it should lead to more efficiency department-wide.
