City staffers and members of the media got a unique ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the WCA Waste Corporation’s recycling facility north of Harrisonville. WCA processes recyclables for the City of Kansas City and sorts, processes and markets nearly 5,300 tons of recyclable material a month through their Harrisonville plant.
WCA processed more than 20,000 tons of recyclable material from 150,000 City of Kansas City households last year. Residential curbside collection accounts for about 40 percent of the materials processed at the plant, the rest coming from the commercial sector and area drop off sites. WCA’s Harrisonville facility is one of the largest in Missouri.
