The City of Kansas City, Mo., Municipal Art Commission and the Avenue of the Arts Foundation invite regional artists to submit proposals for the 2014 Avenue of the Arts temporary public art installation. Proposals must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 10 at 4 p.m. The project is open to all Missouri and Kansas artists residing within 125 miles of Kansas City, Mo. Artists from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The Avenue of the Arts program is an annual summer exhibition of temporary public artwork in downtown Kansas City. The Avenue of the Arts Foundation will commission up to eight artists to create site-specific art installations to be placed on Central Avenue between Ninth and 16th streets from June through October 2014.
Selected artists must be able to design, fabricate and install their artwork by June 1, 2014. They may be asked to work with the Artist Selection Panel and project consultants to determine unique design opportunities. Each installation’s budget will be determined by scope up to $5,000.
To be considered, artists are asked to submit the following:
– A current resume/CV (four pages or less)
– A CD-ROM with up to 20 clearly-labeled images of related past work in JPEG format, compatible with both Macintosh and PC/Windows platforms. Please name each image using the following format: LastNameFirstNameImageNumber.jpg.
– A written description outlining the proposed project, including a proposed location along Central Street between Ninth and 16th streets. The description should include an annotated slide list comprising the proposed project’s title, expected date of completion, materials, size and, where applicable, project budget.
– One or two accompanying sketches in either a hard copy or digital format
Artists may be invited to interview with the selection panel or a representative by phone.
Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
