City Announces Appointment of Director of Economic Development
City of Kansas City, Missouri, City Manager Troy Schulte announced today the appointment of Kerrie Tyndall to the position of Director of Economic Development in the newly created Office of Economic Development, a division of the City Manager’s office.
The Director of Economic Development will centralize, coordinate, and support economic development activities across multiple departments within City Hall and support and coordinate economic development efforts with the newly restructured Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, Missouri (EDC). The Director of Economic Development will serve as the City’s point of contact on economic development matters within City Hall.
“Kansas City is committed to the development of economic activity across the City; identifying a singular office to assist with economic development projects will help serve our residents better and enhance our opportunities for growth,” said City Manager Troy Schulte. “The Office of Economic Development will work in closely with our partners at the Economic Development Council to strengthen existing economic drivers in Kansas City, and to support future initiatives.”
Kansas City’s Office of Economic Development will support the Economic Development Corporation, which serves as the single point of entry for Kansas City’s economic development incentives and activities. The Office of Economic Development will also assist the EDC with the implementation of the AdvanceKC strategic plan, and ensure the achievement of the City’s economic development policy objectives. The creation of the Office of Economic Development structurally recognizes a strategic goal of the City Council to develop a defined Economic Development Unit with the City.
“The creation of the new Office of Economic Development achieves an important strategic objective of the City Council,” said Mayor Sly James. “Development activity is on the rise and we need to ensure that the City is appropriately staffed and resourced to meet this demand. We also need to ensure that the Council has strong technical experts within the organization that it can access when making important policy decisions.”
Tyndall, has almost 20 years of experience in city management including prior service with the City of Kansas City, Missouri between 1995 and 1998. She brings a combined total of almost ten years of economic development experience, including five years of prior service with the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City. Tyndall has been instrumental in driving development efforts in Kansas City, including efforts to redevelop Kemper Arena, the replacement of public housing units within Kansas City, and development of the Swope Park Soccer Village. During her time with the EDC, Tyndall was responsible for business recruitment, retention, and attraction efforts that generated an estimated 1,000 new and 400 retained jobs and $55 million in new investment for Kansas City. Tyndall has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

Tyndall’s appointment to the role of Director of Economic Development is effective immediately.
