The City of Kansas City, Mo. has announced that Tammy Queen has been appointed to the position of Deputy Director of Finance and will oversee the daily operation of the Finance Department. This includes the areas of budgeting, treasury management, accounting, tax collection and economic development. Ms. Queen replaces Wanda J. Gunter who served in the position for many years before retiring in March.
Ms. Queen has been the City Treasurer for over five years and will continue to serve as Acting City Treasurer pending the outcome of a formal recruitment process to name a successor. Ms. Queen has more than 20 years of experience with the City in various financial positions.

Landes, Director of Finance. “I believe she possesses all of the necessary skills to manage the operations of our department and direct the work of each division toward the accomplishment of our strategic goals and objectives. Since joining the City in 1991, Ms. Queen has served in many financial roles including 12 years in the Treasury Division as both City Treasurer and Cash Manager, two years in the Revenue Division as a Financial Manager, four years as a financial analyst within the Finance Department and three years in the Aviation Department as an accountant.
Ms. Queen also has private sector experience. She left the City for four years (1999 to 2003) to serve as a Senior Financial Analyst with the Finance Department of Ferrellgas in Liberty, Missouri.
Ms. Queen has a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Banking from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Queen has earned two professional certifications during her tenure with the City including Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) and is the only City employee to ever be designated an Accredited ACH Professional (AAP).
