FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 20, 2015
Ordinance proposes voter-approval of $15/hour municipal minimum wage
The City of Kansas City, Missouri invites the public to attend open Council discussions concerning an ordinance to increase Kansas City’s municipal minimum wage. If approved, the ordinance would place an issue on the August 4, 2015 election ballot for voter-approval to set Kansas City’s minimum wage at $15 per hour, using a phased-in approach. Adjustments would be made annually based on the consumer price index. Currently, Missouri’s minimum wage is set at $7.65; Federal minimum wage is set at $7.25.
The ordinance will be publicly reviewed during the Kansas City, Missouri, City Council business session on May 21 held at noon on the 26th Floor of City Hall.
