City of Kansas City, Missouri, administrative offices will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday on Dec. 26, and in observance of the New Year’s holiday on Jan. 2. The 311 Call Center will also be closed on these dates. During these two weeks, trash and recycling collection shifts to the holiday schedule, which means curbside pickup will happen one day later than your regular trash day.
The trash and recycling schedule will be as follows:
Residents who usually have Monday trash collection will receive the service on Tuesday, Dec. 27, and so on through the week.
New Year’s Holiday
Residents who usually have Monday trash collection will receive the service on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and so on through the week.
Trash Amnesty: Dec. 27-Dec. 31
The City is granting residents trash amnesty from Tuesday, Dec. 27 to Saturday, Dec. 31. During this time, residents may set out more than two bags of trash on the curb for free, without buying tags for extra trash bags. But please do not include any hazardous waste, bulky items or leaf and brush.
Please remember that the City’s unlimited curbside recycling program can help reduce the amount of trash bags. Residents are encouraged to recycle plastics #1-7, and cardboard and seasonal gift boxes. Residents may also bring recyclable items, including glass, to Recycling Centers located at Metro North Mall, 9051 Hillcrest Rd., and 4707 Deramus Ave. The Centers are open from Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Please note, paper gift wrap is not recyclable, along with a list of other items.
Christmas tree disposal
Christmas trees may be disposed free of charge every Saturday at the City’s Leaf and Brush drop-off sites. Residents will be charged $5 per tree for the disposal of Christmas trees Monday through Friday.
Leaf and Brush drop-off sites:
- 11660 N. Main Street: Open Monday through Saturday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- 1815 N. Chouteau Traffic Way: Open Monday through Saturday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- 10301 Raytown Rd.: Open Saturday only; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Leaf and Brush drop-off sites will be closed in observance of holidays on Dec. 24-26, and on Dec. 31, and Jan. 1-2. All drop-off sites will close for the season on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 and will reopen on March 11, 2017. Please remember to remove ornaments, lights and tinsel before using this service.
