FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 19, 2017
The customer service and cashier windows at Municipal Court may take visitors a little longer to clear on Friday, Oct. 20, as a renovation project starts winding down.
The address for Municipal Court is also changing to 511 E. 11th St. Revolving doors on 11th Street on the north side of the building will become the main entrance, replacing the former Locust Street entrance.
When Municipal Court opens for business on Oct. 23, that new 11th Street entrance will reveal a lobby that features more modern security stations and a customer-friendly cashier area highlighted by lots of space, digital signage and other technological enhancements. The improvement also comply with all ADA requirements.
The Municipal Court was built in 1973 but has had few renovations. This project began in late 2016 and is expected to be completed in mid-2018. The old cashier area on the first floor will be transformed into offices for the Municipal Court Probation Division and the City Prosecutor’s Office. Other improvements include ceiling and floor replacements, better lighting, energy efficiency upgrades to the heating and cooling system and conversion of vacant areas into more usable spaces.
