FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 2, 2018
The Kansas City, Missouri Health Department’s annual Grade A Food Safety Excellence Awards list is out. This year’s list features 274 food service establishments that qualified for the honor, including full-scale restaurants, fast-food establishments, school cafeterias, hospitals/nursing homes, bakeries, convenience stores and grocery stores.
These food establishments have continuously demonstrated excellence in compliance with the Kansas City, Missouri, Food Code and other public health standards. The award is valid for one year and is based on cumulative inspection reports throughout 2017.
The Health Department recognizes that excellence is best achieved when food service management fully endorses employee education and training. Therefore, the 2018 award goes to establishments that have exhibited excellence in sanitation and food safety, as well as employee education.
All local food establishments are inspected regularly by the Health Department and must pass these inspections to remain open. Those receiving the excellence award, approximately 9 percent of the City’s 3,900 permitted food establishments, substantially exceeded the standards of the food code.
