FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 8, 2018
The Kansas City, Missouri Health Department (KCHD) will close all of its clinics on Tuesday, March 13, to conduct drills to test the department’s response to disease outbreaks and bioterrorism.
The full-scale exercise will use staff and pre-identified volunteers at the Scottish Rite Temple. This activity will help gauge the capability of KCHD to organize mass vaccination and antibiotic dispensing in an emergency situation. In such an emergency, medication would be provided by the federal government for local public health agencies to dispense as quickly as possible.
Thirteen health departments in the Kansas City metropolitan area will conduct their own tests at various locations.
KCHD clinics will reopen on Wednesday, March 14, for normal operations.
