FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 7, 2019
Thanks to a nearly $500,000 grant, the City is accepting applications for free home repairs in the North Blue Ridge, Sheffield, Blue Valley and McCoy Park neighborhoods. The city’s Federal Home Loan Bank Home Repair Program, funded by the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Des Moines, has the financial resources to repair more than 24 homes in the four eastside Kansas City neighborhoods.
“These particular neighborhoods were chosen because of the age of the housing stock and because the area had not been previously targeted by any of our city home repair programs,” said John A. Wood, assistant city manager and director of the city’s Neighborhoods and Housing Services Department (NHSD). The housing section of the NHSD will administer the home repairs.
Repairs include roof replacement, siding, painting, doors, windows and concrete. Homeowners must agree to follow all FHLB guidelines and requirements and meet Department of Housing and Urban Development’s low-income guidelines. Only homeowners living in the targeted neighborhoods and meeting the required program guidelines are eligible to participate.
Homeowners interested in applying for the grant can call 816-513-3200. The program runs through November 2020 or until funding runs out.
