Have your say at a City public budget meeting
The City is inviting you to attend at least one of four public meetings set to talk about the budget being submitted for the 2019-20 fiscal year.
The proposed budget is being sent to the City Council on Feb. 14 and is scheduled to be adopted on March 21. But before that happens, you can let council members know which priorities you value most.
The budget hearings are set for:
- Tuesday, Feb. 19, 6-8 p.m.; Southeast Community Center, 4201 E. 63rd St.
- Thursday, Feb. 21, 1-3 p.m.; KCPD Headquarters, Community Room, 1125 Locust St.
- Saturday, Feb. 23, 9-11 a.m.; RB Doolin Center, Board Room, 1856, NE 46th St.
- Saturday, March 2, 9-11 a.m.; Gregg/Klice Community Center, 1600 John Buck O’Neil Way
By charter, the City is required to hold a public hearing between the time the budget is submitted and when it is adopted. The City routinely holds multiple hearings to accommodate various schedules in addition to making it more convenient for residents all over the city.
To help make these meetings more meaningful for participants, the Mayor, council members, department heads and experts from various divisions regularly attend so that they can answer questions on the spot. In addition to the professional expertise provided, each session will also include refreshments.
