The City Planning and Development Department is available to assist customers throughout the stages of the development process. The department is involved with land development engineering, the development plan review process, historic preservation, issuing permits, reviewing plans, performing building inspections, enforcing development policy and issuing contractor licenses.

Development plan review and approval applications
Applications are accepted from developers and citizens to issue approvals to develop. Projects may need to be submitted to the City Plan Commission or Board of Zoning Adjustment.
Historic Preservation Commission
Some projects may require further review by the Historic Preservation Commission.
Construction related permits, zoning determinations and clearances, floodplain information and compliance verification letters for lending institutions. Processes applications for certificates of legal nonconforming use and encroachment ordinance requests.
Review of plans for construction, renovation or remodeling of buildings and building systems. Additional services include resolution of questions posed by property owners, contractors and designers including code modification requests.
