To celebrate the Kansas City Missouri Police Departments 140th anniversary in 2014, nearly 400 department members are going to sport retro badges.
KCPD members have been approved to wear 1923 replica badges through 2014 in homage to days gone by and as a fundraiser for the Kansas City Police Historical Society. Interested department members purchased them, so residents can expect to see several street-level officers wearing them.
The badge replicates what Kansas City Missouri Police officers wore from 1923 to 1932. Historical Society member Captain Chris Sicoli said this is the third in a series of historical badges. The first two were sold in 2000 and 2008.
