Kansas City Police release audit on Department Vehicle Preventative Maintenance Compliance
The Kansas City Missouri Police Department’s Internal Audit Unit released an audit today focusing on determining the compliance of maintenance intervals of department vehicles.
Data recorded by the Fleet Operations Unit and documents FOU uses as guidelines when performing repairs and maintenance were the primary source auditors used to evaluate the department’s compliance.
While the preventative schedule is specified to be every 5,000 miles, it was discovered that department vehicles were determined to have a compliance rate of 53%. Although some vehicles were not serviced at 5,000 miles, most were found to have received service prior to 6,500 miles. Only 5% of the fleet vehicles exceeded the 6,500 benchmark.
It was recommended that Fleet Operations develop a method in order to track those vehicles serviced at 6,500 miles or more.
The full audit report is available online at www.kcpd.org. For more information about the audit, contact Internal Audit Unit Manager Thomas Gee at 816-889-6051.
