Police investigating Northland shooting
Upate – 2:10 p.m. July 8
Police are at a residence in the 10300 block of North Virginia regarding yesterday’s shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
Update – 6:15 p.m.
Below is a sketch of the suspect as described by witnesses from this morning’s double shooting at 10309 N. Virginia. KCPD is asking for assistance in identifying this person. If you have any information about this person or this shooting, please call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). If you see this person call 911.
Update – 2:40 p.m.
Police have an updated description of the suspect in this home invasion/double shooting:
He is a white male in his early 20’s who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He has dark hair, a scruffy beard and was wearing a gray or dirty white T-shirt and dark pants. He remains at large, and police ask residents to keep an eye out for him and call 911 if they see someone matching that description.
Police have advised schools and childcare facilities in the area that a lockdown no longer is necessary. However, lockdown decisions are left up to the schools / care facilities. Parents with questions about lockdowns should contact the schools, not police.
Update – 1:30 p.m.
The adult and juvenile victims of the shooting remain in area hospitals in critical condition. Police are continuing to search for the suspect. Four people were taken into custody in the area of the search on charges unrelated to the shooting.
Update – 10:25 a.m.
Officers continue to search for the double-shooting suspect in the Northland. Police do not believe this was a random shooting. The command post for the search is located at New Mark Middle School at 106th & North Oak (the school is not in session).

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred about 8:15 a.m. near 103rd Street and North Virginia. There are two shooting victims. Officers are searching for the suspect. He has been described as a young white male, “scruffy,” wearing a white T-shirt. Call 911 if you see the suspect.
