Parking Services is responsible for managing the City’s off-street and on-street parking assets to include municipal garages, surface parking lots and parking meters within the Greater Downtown Area. The assets include parking facilities, multiple surface lots and parking meters. Parking Services is tasked with ensuring the City’s parking operations maintain superior customer service levels, generate revenue, provide safe environments for parking and introduce technology driven parking solutions. Parking Services staff manages program budgets, develops and implements policy and procedures, analyzes financials and oversees garage contractors and meter operations contractors. The staff also works in conjunction with the Parking & Transportation Commission, the Parking Policy Review Board and the Downtown Events Planning/Street Closures work group in efforts to ensure the best possible parking experience.
Garage Operations: Municipal parking supports a wide range of parking needs within the Greater Downtown Area. Each of the garages have their own unique characteristics. However, the consistent functions of municipal garages are to support economic development by supporting employee parking, residential parking, event parking and transient hourly parking.
On-Street Operations: Street-level parking services are managed within the Parking Services Division’s area of operations (the Missouri River to Linwood Boulevard and State Line Road to Prospect Avenue.) This includes review of requested changes to parking policy as well as coordinating with City and private vendors to address parking and enforcement issues.
Citizens can use an online form to request changes to parking policies or regulations.
Downtown Parking Control Enforcement: The Kansas City Police Department enforces on-street parking. Parking enforcement transitioned from City staff to the Police on November 1st, 2012. For parking enforcement related items contact the Police Dispatcher Non-Emergency 816-234-5111 or the Action Center Department at 816-513-1313.
Parkmobile: The City of Kansas City, Mo., Parking Services Division, in conjunction with Parkmobile USA, Inc., recently implemented a pay-by-phone service for visitors and residents of Kansas City. Customers can now pay for parking with their cell phone using Parkmobile’s mobile applications for the iPhone, Android, Windows and Blackberry smart phones.
The Parkmobile app can be used for any of the City’s 1,500 parking meters. To use the new Parkmobile system, customers can register for free at www.parkmobile.com or download the mobile app. Once registered, they can use the mobile app, the Internet or a toll free number – 877-PARK-HLP or 877-727-5457 – to pay for parking. After setting up the account, customers can immediately start using the system with their registered mobile phone. They can also select the option to use Parkmobile Wallet, receive alerts and reminders 15 minutes prior to expiration of their parking session. The service charges a nominal service fee for transactions.
Additionally, the new “Click and Park” option makes it easy to find and pre-pay parking in City-owned parking garages.
