Welcome to KCMO.gov, the website for the City of Kansas City, Missouri. KCMO.gov replaced KCMO.org in February 2014 and is search-based. There is no longer a need to navigate through the site, hunting and pecking until you find what you’re looking for. We’ve added a custom Google search front and center to help you find everything you need immediately. KCMO.gov is responsive - you can view it on your phone, your tablet or your desktop. The site partners with the City’s Open Data Catalog, where you can search for information on everything from permits to potholes.
KCMO.gov is streamlined and focuses on the pages that statistics show you use the most. Nearly 100 percent of the new site has been built from scratch. KCMO.gov is powered by WordPress, making KCMO.gov the nation’s largest municipal open-source WordPress website.
Your City Council directed that the City’s new site reflect its residents: open, bold and adaptive. We think we have accomplished that goal. The new KCMO.gov is the first of its kind in the nation, and we are proud to say it is completely homegrown.
Launched at a fourth of the cost of the site it replaces, and built on the free open-source WordPress platform, the new site presents significant savings to taxpayers now and in the future.
KCMO.gov is a work in progress – it will grow, change and add features over time. As with all digital media, launch day is the beginning not the end. We have learned a great deal by listening to our residents, and we will not stop learning.
Our number one goal is to have a City site that works best for our audience. One way we do that is by asking for your feedback. On every page, there is a bar that asks “Is there anything wrong with this page?” Click on that and you can tell us about a problem with a page. You can also contact us at email@example.com.
We also want to have a site that Kansas City can be proud of. We’ve worked with some great local talent to make this 21st century site possible. In addition to building the theme, Luminopolis has been our partner in behind-the-scenes technical work and hosting arrangements. We received a great design assist from SingleWing Creative, who donated our new open-source linked KC logo. We’re always happy to spotlight the work of local photographers. If you’ve got a picture of KCMO that you’d like to see on one of our pages or our top or side navigation sliders, suggest it to us!
Again, welcome to KCMO.gov!
