West Bottoms and Kemper Arena Future
August 25, 2017:
The City of Kansas City has completed the sale of Kemper Arena to FBKC Sports Arena, LLC, an affiliate of Foutch Brothers, a redevelopment team planning to convert the arena into an amateur sports center that is expected to spark redevelopment across the West Bottoms neighborhood. May 18, 2016:
The City presented details of the preferred redevelopment proposal for the Kemper Arena site at a public hearing on May 18th, 2016 at Kemper Arena. The City selected the Foutch Brothers proposal based on its new and dynamic proposed use for Kemper Arena, which is expected to spark widespread economic development in the West Bottoms and Downtown. The City will now move forward to the negotiation phase with the Foutch Brothers proposal.
A Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued May 20, 2015 seeking ideas to redevelop the facility/site, located on approximately 10 acres of City-owned property in the West Bottoms area.

The City of Kansas City, Missouri (City) is seeking Requests for Proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of Kemper Arena. The RFP is open nation-wide to developers who are interested in investing in Kansas City’s burgeoning West Bottoms.

The October 16 Business Session at 1 p.m. will feature an update on the future of Kemper Arena.

Discussions on the future of Kemper Arena and the West Bottoms kicked off on Thursday, July 17 with the first of a series of meetings that will take place through August. (Later meetings will include the opportunity for public testimony.)

The July 17 session consisted of members of the City Council’s Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee and began with a presentation at City Hall on background information, summary of existing plans, financial status (capital, operations and maintenance) and legal considerations (existing leases). Committee members then visited the arena to tour the following areas: Replays Lounge, boiler room, electrical room, locker rooms, bleachers, arena floor, suites and concession stands.
