The Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department is now accepting Communications Specialist applications. The minimum eligibility requirements are:
- You must be 18 years.
- You must be a high school graduate (or possess a state-issued GED/HiSET).
- Non-Residents, if appointed, must establish residency within the city limits of Kansas City, MO within 9 months.
- Preference will be given to persons with experience in public safety.
Emergency Supply Technician:
Maintains all supplies, and records information on appropriate documents. Decontaminates, cleans, details, and stocks ambulances, vehicles and trailers. Disperses and receives equipment assigned to companies or other personnel, and documents on the unit check in and checkout form. Checks and adds vehicle fluids as assigned, responds to scenes with additional equipment when directed by the department and retrieves equipment from stations, hospitals, and from other locations and prepares it for service. Performs equipment preventative maintenance. REQUIRES a high school diploma or state-issued GED. Must be at least 19 years of age. Must possess a current and valid Missouri driver's license or KCFD-approved state-issued driver's license.
Job Title: Firefighter/EMT
Starting salary: $20.11 per hour
Job Requirements
- at least 18 years of age & not more than 30 years
- have a High School Graduate or GED
- possess a valid driver's license: within 9 months of employment must possess and maintain a valid state of Missouri driver’s license
Before entering the academy if selected:
- must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post offer physical.
- must pass a background check as prescribed by the City
Academy Certification:
- take and pass state Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) examination
- obtain a Kansas City defibrillator license
- take and pass Missouri State Firefighter I & II Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations Certifications
- complete the Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) during your academy training or have certification of completion of the CPAT from a certified agency dated within 1 year prior to appointment
Firefighting/EMT Job Summary:
- work in preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires
- answer emergency fire and EMT calls
- operate department equipment
- perform custodial maintenance of quarters.
- training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through the performance of firefighting, rescue and emergency medical activity.
- learn and participate in the operation of apparatus and performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions
- study firefighting methods, evolutions, and techniques
- perform routine duties in the custodial care and minor maintenance of departmental facilities, apparatus, and equipment
