The Office of the EMS Medical Director is the primary source for medical direction and clinical oversight of the Pre-hospital KCFD Emergency Medical Services system.

This includes the training and credentialing of all Emergency Responders, EMT’s, Paramedics and any other participants within the system.

The goal of this office is to uphold accepted standards of practice related to clinical performance and patient care, as well as protecting the health and safety of all Kansas City residents, visitors and those providers of pre-hospital care.

EMS Protocols (updated September 2024)

The KCFD EMS Protocols are diagnosis-specific treatment guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by the EMS Medical Director as the normal standard of care for a given clinical condition. 

Any EMS Pre-hospital Care Provider; Paramedic and/or Emergency Medical Technician are required to obtain KCMO City Certification from the EMS Medical Director of KCMO.
