The Kansas City Compost Dropoff program helps divert food waste away from landfills and through an environmentally sustainable composting process.
Environmental Impacts
- Reduces methane and carbon dioxide emissions reducing greenhouse gas pollution
- Reduces wasted resources on agricultural production and transport
- Reduces amount of landfill space being used by waste than can instead produce an environmentally beneficial product
- Restores soil by enriching with nutrients
Compost is collected at a local compost processing facility where it is converted into usable mulch and compost for local farming operations.
Managing your compost as frequently as you manage your trash will help keep the pests away. The Dropoff Compost Program is continuing to expand making composting convenient and easy.
The Composting program is completely free to residents as part of Kansas City’s efforts to invest in environmental quality to ensure a stable economy and farming enterprise in the face of a changing climate and limited available land space. The more we compost, the longer we can delay the expensive endeavor of building or expanding our landfills.
