A CompassKC account must be created for both the owner of the property and any additional contacts.

Required Information

• The physical address of the project location.
• A brief description detailing the scope of work to be done.
• The linear feet of the curb, square feet of the drive approach, and/or square feet of the sidewalk to be replaced.

Required Documents

• A drawing or diagram showing the location and measurements of the work.
• A liability insurance certificate showing the City as an additional insured party and a certificate holder.

If constructing a new driveway or parking pad, contact Zoning for approval before applying for the permit. The application for drive approach construction will be denied without Zoning approval.

ADA ramp construction plans will not receive a review under the minor infrastructure application. This work requires submitted engineered plans for review. (See Major Infrastructure)

The property owner is responsible for securing general liability insurance that covers both bodily injury and property damage. There are two insurance options.

Option 1:  Requirements for residential properties NOT owned under a business name 

1. Minimum amount of coverage: $400,000

2. The City of Kansas City, Missouri must be added to the insurance certificate as an additional insured party.

3. The City of Kansas City, Missouri must be added to the insurance certificate as a certificate holder. The certificate holder information should appear as follows:

Option 2:   Requirements for proprietor(s), contractors, and business-owned properties

1. Minimum amount of coverage: $1,000,000

2. The City of Kansas City, Missouri must be added to the insurance certificate as an additional insured party.

3. The City of Kansas City, Missouri must be added to the insurance certificate as a certificate holder. The certificate holder information should appear as follows:

Go to CompassKC, then, click on “Guest” in the top-right corner and click on “Register” to set up an account.

How to Apply

After you have entered the information, uploaded the required documents, and submitted the application, a CLDPMT number will be created by the system, indicating that your permit is pending.

Please note: An application is not a guarantee of acceptance. The Development Services Permit Staff will review your application and advise you of its acceptance or denial. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 816-513-2551.

Fees are determined in accordance with adopted Code of Ordinances and communicated by the permit staff at the time of permit preparation and/or issuance.

Minor Infrastructure Inspections

Before construction, contact the inspector assigned to the permit. If the assigned inspector is unknown, please visit CompassKC and lookup the permit number for this information. The inspector may also be reached by calling (816) 513-2570.
