The Kansas City Building and Rehabilitation Code outlines the minimum requirements for construction within the City of Kansas City, Mo. It is designed to safeguard the public’s health and general welfare as buildings are constructed.
Recent Updates:
- The City Council approved an update to the 2018 edition of the International Building Code, effective June 28, 2020.
- Energy Code: City Council approved an update to the energy code to the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), effective July 1, 2023. There is a 90-day grace period; during the grace period, plans may be submitted under the 2012 or 2021 IECC. Plans submitted after September 29, 2023, at 4PM will be required to be in full compliance with the 2021 IECC. Please see local amendments below and please see Information Bulletins no. IB171
