COVID Vaccines for Children- The Kansas City Health Department is now vaccinating children six months and older against COVID.

We have both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines available in child doses.

New 'Bivalent' Vaccine Booster (designed to give you broad protection against COVID-19, including better protection against the Omicron variant.)

+Approved by the FDA on August 31.

+Next, the CDC will vote on it September 1 & 2.

+If approved, it will then go to Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for approval and orders will be sent to local health departments.

+Kansas City Health Department would then be able to order the vaccine and begin vaccinations.

Things to know:

It's easy. Save your spot by pre-registering and booking your own appointment or walk-in and take your vaccine! Whether it's your first dose, second dose, or booster dose, we'll be happy to see you! 

• Adults, you may choose which vaccine you want: Pfizer, Moderna or J&J.
  • Note: The J&J vaccine may be unavailable at some clinics due to supply shipments.

• You may choose which COVID-19 vaccine you receive as a booster shot. Some people prefer to get the vaccine they originally received. Others may prefer to get a different booster.
  
  • CDC's recommendations now allow for mix-and-match for booster vaccines.

 **From CDC: Waiting eight weeks between first and second Pfizer & Moderna doses may be better for some people 12 years and older, especially for males ages 12 to 39 years. 

Johnson & Johnson's Janssen

Approved for people 18 and older. 

J&J boosters are recommended at least two months after your shot for those 18 years or older.

Things to know before coming to the health department clinics:

• Children under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by parent/legal guardian.
• If child is not accompanied by parent or legal guardian, then a letter, written and signed, from the parent/guardian must accompany child.
• • Letter needs to include:
    • Parent/guardian’s name
    • Child’s name
    • Name of the person accompanying the child
    • Phone number where parent/guardian can be reached
• Bring a copy of the child’s previous shot record.
• The person accompanying the child must have a picture ID and be 18 years or older
• Please cancel your appointment if you have a fever, new onset of cough, and/or if you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
• To reduce the potential spread of COVID-19, masks will be required for all visitors three- years of age and older, and staff. Exceptions will be allowed for certain underlying medical conditions.
