Public Works believes it is important to try new things and explore partnerships, activities and materials that improve the quality of our work.

The sidewalk team is excited to be working on two special projects that will help us gather data, explore cost effective measures for sidewalk materials and learn more about intersection safety at two pilot locations.

Rubberized Sidewalks

We partnered with UMKC and construction industry folks to study use of other materials for Sidewalks. The study used Rubberized (recycled rubber) whose application can be used around trees. This will follow our Council goals of sustainability and trees.

Concrete Shaving

Tripping hazards up to 1 inch (sometime 1.5 inch) which are not caused by trees heaving can be shaved and make them ADA Compliant. The operation is efficient and cost-effective.
