Kansas City owns and operates 100,000 streetlights. In 2017, Kansas City began converting the cobrahead fixtures from high-pressure sodium to new energy-efficient LEDs, with 5,925 lights converted in the first phase.
In May 2022, the City continued the project with 82,946 streetlights converted by June 2024, for a total of 88,871 converted across the city.
