All rental property owners are required to register their Kansas City, Missouri rental properties, per Ordinance 180248.

Unit Registration for Rental Property Owners

• Permits are valid January 1 - December 31 every year 
• Annual permit fee of $20 per unit and one-time application of $20
  • For example, an apartment complex with 10 units pays a one-time $20 application fee and $200 ($20 x 10 units) permit fee with the completed application for a total of $220.
  • Subsequent years the rental property owner would pay $200 for the 10 units.

A completed application with supporting documents must be submitted prior to opening a new rental property or change of ownership or management.
