In August 2018, voters decided there should be health and safety standards in Kansas City rental housing. Through an initiative petition, they passed the Healthy Homes Rental Inspection Program, Ordinance 180248.

If you cannot reach your landlord or your landlord has not responded to your health or safety concern in your rental home, you can file a complaint with the Health Department.

There are several ways to file a complaint.

  • Call the City’s Action Center (3-1-1)
  • Call the Healthy Homes Rental Inspection Program (816-513-6464)
  • Walk-in to the Program located at 2400 Troost Ave, Suite 3600
Once the Health Department receives the complaint, it is logged and assigned to an inspector. The inspector will contact the complainant within 48 hours to schedule an inspection time.
