Taps at the Tower (Taps) began in 2014 to mark 100 years since the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria, the event that sparked World War I. Taps has become a Kansas City tradition, attracting more guest each year. Each year, we welcome more than 2,000 visitors during Taps at the Tower week. During the week-long commemoration, the public can picnic, play games, and enjoy our 47-acre campus. Each evening at sunset, guests gather at the Tower to experience Taps being played during a brief and moving ceremony. Again in 2023, we invite guests, free of charge, to ascend the Liberty Memorial Tower, following the ceremony, to enjoy the spectacular Kansas City panorama.
