KCMO City Councilmember Darrell CurlsDarrell Curls was elected to the City Council on June 20, 2023, as the 5th District at Large Councilmember and has been appointed to the Finance, Governance and Public Safety Committee.

He has served on numerous boards and commissions for the city and county, including the Hickman Mills school board, the Jackson County Combat Commission, the Public Improvements Advisory Committee, South Kansas City Alliance and the Southern Communities Coalition.  He is currently serving as President of the Kirkside Homes Association. 

Darrell recently retired from Ford Motor Company at the Claycomo plant and has been a U.A.W. member for over 35 years. He served on several committees for Local #249 and was elected Shop Steward for six of those years where he championed the rights of workers by representing them on contract issues, benefits and day to day concerns they would face. 

Darrell earned his Associate of Arts degree from Longview Community College, his Bachelor of Arts in Business from Park College, and his Master's in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. 

Darrell Lives in South Kansas City, in the Hickman Mills area with his wife, Denitta. He has two grown children, a son and a daughter. He attends St. Monica’s Catholic church.
