Mayor Lucas Takes on New Leadership Role in African American Mayors Association

Kansas City, Mo – Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas today announced he has taken on a new leadership role within the African American Mayors Association as a member of the Association’s Board of Trustees,

The African American Mayors Association, founded in 2014, is the only organization dedicated to representing African American mayors throughout the United States. The role of the African American Mayors Association includes taking positions on public policies that impact the vitality and sustainability of cities; providing mayors with leadership and management tools; and creating a forum for member mayors to share best practices related to municipal management.

“I am proud to join the leadership team of such an empowering group of mayors working each day to make our communities safer and stronger,” said Mayor Lucas. “More cities than ever before are represented by Black mayors and it is vital we work together to uplift our collective voices on issues disproportionately affecting our community—particularly as it relates to the scourge of gun violence and income inequality plaguing cities large and small across our country. Over the past several years, we’ve seen mayors rally together to enact reasonable policies to keep our residents safe from COVID-19, to take on gun manufacturers head-on, to ensure the passage of the largest federal infrastructure package in history, and so much more. I am looking forward to serving on the board of the African American Mayors Association and continuing to work to increase the quality of life for all Kansas Citians and all Americans.”

“As CEO of AAMA, we look forward to working with Mayor Lucas,” said Phyllis Dickerson, CEO of the African American Mayors Association. “He always brings a new perspective to many of the issues plaguing our cities.  He will be a great addition to the Board of Trustees.”

In addition to serving as a member of the African American Mayors Association Board of Trustees, Mayor Lucas is also chairman of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Criminal and Social Justice Committee, and is a co-chair of Everytown for Gun Safety’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns advocacy organization.
