Following hundreds of hours of work by city staffers and community partners and input received during six citywide public meetings, the City's  Five Year Housing Policy  was unveiled in late 2018.  This Housing Policy matrix outlines how the policy will be implemented.

Department personnel orchestrated the creation of the policy, outlining short- and long-term goals to improve future housing and housing availability in Kansas City.

One of the major goals of the policy- and a concern voiced during every public meeting- is increasing housing stock regardless of income level. The policy calls for building or preserving 5,000 low- to moderately-priced homes by 2023 and creating a $75 million public/private trust fund for preserving and rehabbing existing homes.
